Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sung Valenzuela (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Westphal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sung Valenzuela!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Martin Westphal!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Westphal drives through with a takedown into Valenzuela's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Valenzuela really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Westphal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valenzuela swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Valenzuela lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Valenzuela got a little sloppy there for a moment and Westphal has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Valenzuela has managed to get both his arms back between Westphal's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Westphal blocks a head kick by Valenzuela.
Martin Westphal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Westphal looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Westphal wants to pass the guard but Valenzuela is defending well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Westphal dives in and scores a takedown into Valenzuela's guard.
Westphal not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Westphal stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valenzuela swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Westphal wants to stand and escape but instead Valenzuela has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Valenzuela has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Westphal is proving hard to escape from.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Valenzuela postures up in Westphal's guard and throws a big left but Westphal blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Westphal dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Horrible takedown attempt by Valenzuela or perhaps it was just good defense by Westphal, which made it look bad.

Valenzuela is looking to counter punch.

Westphal looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Westphal trying to control the action but Valenzuela is working from the bottom.
Westphal wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Valenzuela uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Westphal is fighting to break Valenzuela's control of his arms but Valenzuela is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Westphal drops back, looking for a kneebar! Valenzuela looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Valenzuela looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Valenzuela!

Westphal has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee asks Valenzuela politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Valenzuela prefers to stall for the moment though.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Westphal manages to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Westphal wants to improve his position but Valenzuela is controlling well.
Valenzuela wants to take a breather but Westphal is having none of it.
Westphal is trying to control but can't.
It looks like Valenzuela is going to stand back up.
Valenzuela wants to lay and pray for a moment but Westphal keeps working.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Westphal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Valenzuela looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Westphal!
Westphal can't do much from the bottom here.

Valenzuela is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Westphal has escaped the position, nice work there.
Westphal is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Valenzuela decides to stand up, so the ref orders Westphal to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sung Valenzuela dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Westphal feints and as Valenzuela raises his hands in defense, Westphal changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Valenzuela manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Westphal manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Valenzuela stands up from Westphal's guard - Valenzuela perhaps looking for a knockout.
Valenzuela throws a big shot that misses.

Westphal shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Westphal was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Valenzuela tries to bench press Westphal off him but Westphal keeps the position.

Valenzuela tries to buck Westphal off but Westphal is having none of it.
Valenzuela dodges the ground and pound from Westphal.
Valenzuela parries the strikes from Westphal easily there. Westphal is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Valenzuela to escape.
Westphal tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Westphal tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Valenzuela is not content to let Westphal control the position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Valenzuela prevents Westphal from improving position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

I think Westphal has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
