PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Donald Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adi Dassler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Donald Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adi Dassler!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dassler looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Evans scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Dassler doesn't seem bothered though.
Dassler moves out of range as Evans strikes.
Dassler is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Evans with a body shot.
Jab by Evans.
Dassler shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Evans as he jumps to the side.
Evans swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Evans scores with a nice strike.
Evans misses with a looping left.
Dassler is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Jab, jab by Evans - just one landing.
Dassler uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Evans.

Dassler shoots in looking for a takedown but Evans manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dassler's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Evans leaves Dassler with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Evans has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dassler can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Evans is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dassler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Evans tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Evans has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

and Evans counters with a nice uppercut.
Dassler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Evans throws a hook to the side of Dassler's head but Dassler sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Dassler looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Evans is fending him off so far but Dassler persists. Nope, Evans circles away and we're back to standing.

Dassler changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Evans defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Dassler.

Dassler fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Evans uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Dassler has time to react.


It looks like Adi Dassler has been cut.
Evans throws a lazy uppercut

and Dassler counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Evans moves into full guard.
Dassler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evans swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Evans working for a triangle but Dassler defends it easily.
Dassler working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Dassler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Evans has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dassler has managed to get both his arms back between Evans's legs - danger averted.

Evans is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dassler is aware though and is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dassler loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Evans has his foot on Dassler's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dassler works his way back into a safe position though.

Evans is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dassler defends well.
Adi Dassler has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dassler works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Dassler is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Evans is just riding it out for now. Dassler eventually gives up the hold.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Evans, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
