PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Spears (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Spears!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Bates!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spears throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bates throws a head kick that misses.
Bates misses with a takedown
and Spears counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Bates tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bates will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Bates flicks out a counter leg kick but Spears steps away.
Spears misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spears shoots in looking for a takedown. Bates tries to sprawl out of it but Spears keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bates manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Bates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

and Spears counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Bates throws a hook to the side of Spears's head but Spears sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Spears really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Spears has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bates throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Spears counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Spears will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
