Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Kato!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kato lands with a nice body kick.
Kato connects with a body shot that sends Gross's belly button to the back.
Kato throws a head kick that half lands.
Gross on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Kato tries a head kick but it misses.

Kato manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gross on his heels. He'll look to pass Gross's guard now, I'm sure.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gross not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kato is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Kato feints and as Gross raises his hands in defense, Kato changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Kato looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Gross has picked Kato up and slammed him! Kato can't keep hold of the triangle and Gross manages to pass to side control!

Kato pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gross is out of range and Kato settles back down.
Gross is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Kato.

Gross tries to clinch but Kato moves out of range.
Gross has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Kato moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Kato tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Kato rushes Gross and presses him up against the cage.

Kato pulls guard effortlessly.
Gross trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kato avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gross with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Gross postures up and lands a big shot to Kato's brow.

Gross drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gross jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gross is working Kato over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Gross throws a big right hand that misses.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kato with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Gross moves in looking to clinch but Kato pushes him off.

Kato bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Kato tries to land a leg kick but Gross saw it coming and moves away.
Kato lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Michael Kato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Gross doesn't manage to clinch there - Kato circles away.
Gross could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gross tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Kato closes the distance and pushes Gross back into the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gross drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kato looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kato looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kato!

Kato throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Gross to regain full guard.

Kato is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Gross wants to sweep here but Kato controlling him for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kato throws a big right hand that misses.
Kato wants to pass the guard but Gross is keeping the position.
Kato is looking to advance position but Gross has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

BOOM! Gross connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Gross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kato tries to lock up and control but Gross gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Gross is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kato to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kato shrugs it off.

Well Kato has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
