PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Alex Coxall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Alex Coxall has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Coxall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Miller!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coxall throws a leg kick which misses Miller's front leg but catches the back leg as Miller tries to avoid it.
A chopping leg kick lands by Coxall.
Miller checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Coxall lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Horrible takedown attempt by Miller or perhaps it was just good defense by Coxall, which made it look bad.
Miller shoots in for a takedown but Coxall shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Nice cross by Coxall.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Coxall - that will leave a mark!
Coxall misses with a low kick as Miller jumps back.
A head kick from Coxall lands but Miller takes it in his stride.
Miller takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Coxall lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Good leg kick by Coxall there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Miller blocks a low kick nicely.
Coxall lands with a thumping leg kick.

Coxall scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Coxall scores with a punch to the head.
Coxall goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Coxall chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Coxall throws a nice outside leg kick.
Coxall connects with a leg kick. Miller looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Coxall lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Miller feints and as Coxall raises his hands in defense, Miller changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Miller working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Coxall's head.
Miller in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Miller looking to sit in guard and control but Coxall gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miller is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Coxall is controlling him.

Miller is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Miller can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Coxall controls the pace.
Coxall wants to control from the top but Miller keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Miller is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Miller has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Coxall.
Miller shoots in but no luck this time.
Alex Coxall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Miller.
Miller takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Miller dives in and grabs Coxall's left leg, looking for a takedown. Coxall pushes down on Miller's head and hops out.
A jab from Coxall finds it's way through Miller's defenses.
Miller avoids a punch combination nicely.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Coxall comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Miller shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Miller was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Coxall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Miller on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Miller takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Coxall scoring well with a low kick there.
Coxall lands a head kick. Miller smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Coxall connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Alex Coxall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coxall connects with a right hand. Miller shakes it off.
Coxall scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Coxall plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Coxall is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Miller can do to turn this around?
Coxall feints and then cracks Miller's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Miller down.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nice takedown defense from Coxall. No joy for Miller on that attempt.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Miller checks a leg kick.

It looks like Coxall has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Coxall lands with an uppercut that bounces Miller off the cage and back into range.

Coxall misses with a low kick as Miller jumps back.

Miller looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Miller seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Coxall does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Miller works his foot free and advances to mount.
Miller tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Miller lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Coxall is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Miller lands a couple of good shots and Coxall has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Miller is not going to allow Coxall to sit and survive in this position.

Miller seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Coxall's chin but Coxall turns very nicely into Miller's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Coxall.

Chris Miller has got the better of the ground game so far.
Miller is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Coxall had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Miller defends it easily.

Miller looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Coxall fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Miller has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Miller takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Miller has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Coxall.
Coxall misses with a kick to the body.
Miller shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Coxall is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Coxall with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Miller closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Alex Coxall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The fighters circle momentarily. Coxall darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Coxall defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Miller.
Alex Coxall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Miller.
The crowd cheers as Coxall lands an impressive looking overhand right. Miller doesn't seem phased though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Coxall lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Chris Miller has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Miller takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coxall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
