Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Riley Jacob (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Carlos Ortiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riley Jacob has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Riley Jacob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Carlos Ortiz!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jacob shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ortiz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jacob trying to control the position from guard on top but Ortiz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jacob throws a big elbow that misses.
Jacob forces his way into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jacob is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ortiz can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ortiz is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ortiz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Jacob postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Ortiz looks a forlorn figure.

Jacob wants to finish this one by submission but Ortiz is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jacob.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jacob cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Ortiz is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ortiz tries to control Jacob's body but Jacob pushes him off. Ortiz squirms to his side and now Jacob has his back!

Jacob is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ortiz knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ortiz for a finish.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Ortiz swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Jacob.
Ortiz throws a nice looking combination but Jacob bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Jacob shoots in looking for a takedown. Ortiz tries to sprawl out of it but Jacob keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ortiz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Ortiz thuds his right hand into Jacob's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Jacob missing with a left hand there. Ortiz was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Ortiz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Juan Carlos Ortiz seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Jacob shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ortiz as he avoids it easily.

Jacob will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Juan Carlos Ortiz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jacob tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ortiz defends well and Jacob ends up having to push Ortiz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Jacob moves into full mount! Ortiz won't be happy about that!
Ortiz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jacob. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ortiz is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jacob wants to control the pace but Ortiz is squirming around nicely.

Juan Carlos Ortiz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ortiz has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
