PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rocherre Velassco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Glover (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rocherre Velassco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeff Glover!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velassco avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Velassco avoids the body shot from Glover.
Velassco throws a push kick but Glover slaps the foot to one side.
Glover takes a swing at Velassco's ribcage but misses.
Velassco jabs at Glover's body.
Glover fails with the takedown.
Jeff Glover seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Glover connects with a single shot there.
Velassco feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Glover's calf.
Glover throws a low kick, looking for Velassco's leg but Velassco calmly moves out of range.
Velassco fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Glover.
Glover shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Velassco eats them both and turns towards Glover to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Rocherre Velassco has been cut.
Glover tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Glover throws a left and a right that both miss
and Velassco counters with a straight right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Glover cracks Velassco with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.
Velassco sizes up Glover with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Glover wants to slow Velassco down by chopping away at his legs.

Glover lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Velassco at a distance.
Glover throws a hook but Velassco blocks it.
Velassco misses with an uppercut.
Velassco displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Glover.
A jab from Glover finds it's way through Velassco's defenses.
Velassco catches Glover with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Glover throws out a powerful jab.
Velassco scores with a jab.
Rocherre Velassco is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Velassco scores with a crisp jab that stopped Glover in his tracks.
Glover throws out a loose jab but Velassco uses good head movement to avoid it.
Glover throws a body shot but no joy.
Glover throws a solid leg kick but Velassco takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Glover.
A combination from Glover does no damage.

Glover swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Velassco counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Glover misses with a head kick.
Velassco throws a head kick but Glover moves out of range.

Velassco drives through and clinches with Glover against the ropes.
Glover is trying to drag Velassco to the mat but Velassco just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
Rocherre Velassco has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeff Glover.
Velassco scores with a hook to the body.
Come on Velassco - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Velassco lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Velassco tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Glover avoids it.

Glover decides to pull guard.
Velassco stopping the sweep attempt from Glover.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Velassco wants to get up but he can't break Glover's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Glover looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Velassco tries to free his leg and advance position but Glover is retaining full guard.
Velassco won't allow Glover to sweep him here.
Velassco wants to control from the top but Glover keeps moving.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Velassco stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Glover swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Glover swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Velassco counters with a stiff right hand.
Velassco takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Glover will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Velassco misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Glover takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Velassco clinches up against the ropes.

Velassco effectively controlling the action here.

I was talking to Velassco's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Velassco using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Glover has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Glover blocks an uppercut.
Glover is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Glover fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Velassco effectively controlling the action here.
Glover tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Velassco smiles and moves away.
Glover feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Velasscos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Velassco connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

A low kick from Glover is predictable there
enabling Velassco to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rocherre Velassco will probably get the nod.

Velassco lands a nice leg kick that just misses Glover's sensitive parts.
Glover throws a right and a left that Velassco avoids nicely.
Velassco scores with a head kick. Glover tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Velassco goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Glover misses with a body kick.
Velassco throws a nice inside leg kick.
Velassco checks a leg kick nicely.

Glover misses with a double jab.
Glover rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Velassco moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Glover dips to his left and cracks Velassco with an uppercut!
Glover misses with a few strikes there.
Velassco moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Velassco has Glover up against the ropes in a clinch.

Glover ties up his opponent against the ropes and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Glover no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Glover is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Velassco stands up from Glover's guard - Velassco perhaps looking for a knockout.
Glover misses with a straight left.

Velassco fails to land with a series of punches.
Glover takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Velassco! Glover is out on his feet! Velassco rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Glover is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Glover is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rocherre Velassco!
Our winner, Rocherre Velassco, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
