PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Pathos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Ain't No Sunshine. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ian Pathos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Steel!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Steel wants it to stay on the feet.
Steel's corner calls for a 1-2. Steel obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Steel misses with a straight right.
Pathos thows a left - swing and a miss!
Steel throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pathos sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pathos ducks under a wild hook from Steel.
Steel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pathos.
Pathos fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Pathos looks to land a left hand but Steel moved out of range nicely.
Steel throws a big shot that misses.
Steel missing with a left hand there. Pathos was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A cross from Steel lands.
Pathos takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Pathos is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.


It looks like Alex Steel has been cut.
Pathos ducks under a wild hook from Steel.
Steel cracks Pathos with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pathos throws a lazy uppercut
and Steel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Pathos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Steel circles away.

It looks like Ian Pathos has been cut.
Steel defending well as Pathos loads up on a big left hand.
Pathos throws a series of punches but Steel avoids them all with ease.

Steel might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pathos gets tackled into the cage by Steel. Steel maintains the clinch.
Steel lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Steel unloads a knee to the mid-section. Pathos lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Steel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Ian Pathos's cut is getting worse.
Pathos throws a lazy right hand but Steel sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Pathos throws a nice looking combination but Steel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Steel tries to close the distance and clinch but Pathos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Steel throws the left hand but Pathos avoids the punch easily.
Steel misses with a jab, cross combination.
Horrible takedown attempt by Pathos or perhaps it was just good defense by Steel, which made it look bad.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Steel dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pathos looks to throw the jab but Steel is out of range.

Pathos shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Steel is looking to escape.
Steel is not content to let Pathos control the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Steel wants to get back to his feet.
Pathos thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Steel pushes Pathos off looking to stand but Pathos dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pathos is looking for a kimura but Steel is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pathos to get the leverage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Steel is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pathos.

and Steel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Steel has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
Pathos keeps the fight on the outside.
Steel misses with a hook. Pathos ducked under it nicely.

Pathos manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Steel on his heels. He'll look to pass Steel's guard now, I'm sure.

Steel wants to stand but Pathos is controlling the position.
Ian Pathos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Steel manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Pathos is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Steel is defending well.
Steel is working Pathos over against the cage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Steel lands a left hand that snaps the head of Pathos backwards.
Steel lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pathos takes an elbow to the temple.
Steel throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Pathoss head.
Pathos drops down looking for an ankle pick but Steel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Steel stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Nice straight punches there by Steel. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Steel.
Steel moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Steel has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Pathos misses with a body shot
and Steel counters with a nice uppercut.
Steel fails to land with a series of punches.
Steel doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Pathos throws a jab but it's blocked by Steel.
Steel ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Ian Pathos's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Alex Steel seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Steel displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Pathos throws out the jab.
Steel lands with a nice combination. Pathos backs away looking to recover.

Steel moves away from the strike by Pathos.
Pathos shoots in but no luck this time.
Steel lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Pathos gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Steel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Pathos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Steel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pathos scores with the left hand. Steel knows he should have avoided that one.

Jeez, Ian Pathos's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Ian Pathos's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Alex Steel!
Alex Steel decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
