The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garcia defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Volkov.

Garcia fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Volkov to the ground. Garcia is now in Volkov's guard.
Garcia trying to control the position from guard on top but Volkov is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Volkov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Garcia wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Garcia lands a few punches from side control.
Garcia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Volkov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Volkov takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Garcia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Garcia creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Volkov is looking for a sweep.
Garcia looks up at the clock and then as Volkov takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Garcia smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Check out the look on Garcia's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Garcia tries for a kimura but Volkov is defending well.
Volkov takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Garcia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Volkov is looking to reverse the position.

Volkov is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Garcia scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Volkov is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Garcia can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
