Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hughie Beauchemin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Shark!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shark gets the takedown into side control.

Shark goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beauchemin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Shark but great work by Beauchemin.
Beauchemin tries to stand but Shark is controlling his head.
Shark manages to work his way to half guard, despite Beauchemin's best efforts.
Shark is pressing down on Beauchemin's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Beauchemin is looking to stand up but Shark won't let him.

Shark scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Shark tries to score a power double leg takedown but Beauchemin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Shark somewhat.

Shark bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Shark thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Beauchemin is pushing Shark's head away, looking to escape. Shark manages to hold on to the position though.

Shark has hold of Beauchemin's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Beauchemin seems comfortable defending it but Shark has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Beauchemin is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Beauchemin is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Shark couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Matt Shark!
Matt Shark decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
