Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Diggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggins is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Bonfire. Franklin Diggins is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Penn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franklin Diggins!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Penn tries to keep at a distance but Diggins has taken the fight into the clinch.
Diggins lands an elbow inside that Penn shrugs off.


It looks like James Penn has been cut.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Penn pulls guard effortlessly.

Penn is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Diggins defends well.
Penn looking to control.

Penn escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diggins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Diggins avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Penn looking for a guillotine here but Diggins defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diggins looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Penn working for a triangle but Diggins defends it easily.
Diggins works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Diggins works his way into side control.
Diggins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diggins trying to control the action but Penn is working from the bottom.
Penn manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Penn tries to pass to full mount but Diggins defends it.
Diggins keeping control of the position.
Penn works his way into full mount!
Diggins can't escape the position.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Penn has hold of Diggins's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diggins manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Penn working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Penn is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Diggins can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Diggins really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Diggins is still trying to improve position.

Penn is working for a guillotine from mount but Diggins frees his head quite easily.
Diggins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Penn. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Diggins tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Diggins tries to reverse the position but Penn maintains control.

Diggins has left one of his arms exposed and Penn doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Diggins screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Penn!
James Penn was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
