PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chinny Magalhaes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Erschov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chinny Magalhaes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexei Erschov!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magalhaes leaves Erschov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Erschov misses with a takedown

and Magalhaes counters with a single leg into guard. Erschov didn't expect that.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Erschov holds on and takes a little breather.
Magalhaes pushes down on Erschov's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Magalhaes is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Magalhaes is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Erschov has managed to free his arm - good work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Magalhaes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Erschov is just riding it out for now. Magalhaes eventually gives up the hold.

Erschov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Erschov closes the distance and clinches up with Magalhaes, looking for a takedown. Erschov pushes Magalhaes against the cage but Magalhaes circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Magalhaes counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Erschov dives in for a single leg takedown but Magalhaes sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Magalhaes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Erschov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Magalhaes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Magalhaes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Magalhaes wants to pass the guard but Erschov is keeping the position.

Erschov escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Magalhaes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Magalhaes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Erschov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Magalhaes has managed to get both his arms back between Erschov's legs - danger averted.

Erschov wants to get back to his feet but Magalhaes is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Erschov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Magalhaes controls the pace.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Erschov gets tackled into the cage by Magalhaes. Magalhaes maintains the clinch.
Magalhaes lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Erschov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Magalhaes is defending well for now.

Magalhaes turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Magalhaes manages to end up in side control.

Magalhaes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Magalhaes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Erschov is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Erschov is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Magalhaes tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Erschov is trying to get back to his feet.

Magalhaes tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Magalhaes has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Magalhaes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
