PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Reacher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reacher with a lazy takedown attempt
and Rose counters with a two punch combo.
Reacher closes the distance but Rose moves to the side

and Rose moves into the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Reacher.

Rose breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rose wants to break free but Reacher has control.

Reacher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Reacher tries to close the distance and clinch but Rose swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Reacher moves into range and clinches up with Rose.
Rose prevents a takedown attempt there.
Reacher tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Hugh Rose has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Reacher.

Rose looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Rose manages to break the clinch.
Rose slaps away a takedown attempt from Reacher, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Reacher shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Rose counter with a right hand.

Reacher drives through and clinches with Rose against the cage.
Rose looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Rose is pushing Reacher up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Reacher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Reacher has his takedown stuffed

and Rose counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Reacher trying to control from the bottom.
Reacher might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rose haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Rose looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Reacher pushes Rose off and gets back to his feet.

Some bone on bone action there as Rose checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Reacher tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rose manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Reacher closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rose circles away.
Reacher throws a head kick but Rose moves out of range.
Reacher closes the distance and clinches up with Rose, looking for a takedown. Reacher pushes Rose against the cage but Rose circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rose really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Reacher avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Rose blocks a head kick by Reacher.
Reacher doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Rose counters with a low kick, right behind Reacher 's knee.
Reacher looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rose gets tackled into the cage by Reacher. Reacher maintains the clinch.
Rose wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rose prevents a takedown attempt there.
Reacher changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Rose fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Reacher shoots and misses

and Rose counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Reacher has a closed guard, preventing Rose from standing up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rose working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Reacher's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Hugh Rose will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Reacher with a poor takedown

and Rose counters with a single leg into guard. Reacher didn't expect that.

Reacher has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rose is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Reacher.
Reacher wants to control but Rose postures up.

Rose working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Reacher takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Rose gets to mount! Reacher was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Rose quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Rose but it's paid off an Reacher is forced to tap! Nice work by Rose.
