Away comes to the cage accompanied by Rude Boy Dreams. Phoenix has chosen Phoenix as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Phoenix!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phoenix ducks under a wild hook from Away.
Phoenix uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Away.
Phoenix tries to close the distance and clinch but Away swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Phoenix falls off balance throwing a combination
and Away counters with a right hand to the body.
Away works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Away scores with a shot to the body.
Away scores with a nice strike.
Away misses with an uppercut. Phoenix saw that one coming.
Phoenix throws a body punch but Away moves out of range.
Maubee Away seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Away throws a poor cross that misses
and Phoenix counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Away thinking.
Away thows a left - swing and a miss!
Away looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Away misses with an uppercut.
Phoenix slips under a jab from Away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Phoenix throws a hook but Away blocks it.
Away throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A big left from Away misses.
Away comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Phoenix ducks under a wild hook from Away.
Phoenix moves out of range of the strikes.
Phoenix throws a right and a left that Away avoids nicely.
Away pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Some wild striking there from Phoenix.
Away misses with a straight right.

Phoenix rushes Away and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Away jumps guard but Phoenix turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Phoenix landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Away tries to pull guard but Phoenix holds him up against the cage and eventually Away drops back down to his feet.

Phoenix has hold of one of Away's legs. Away is fighting the takedown attempt but Phoenix gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Phoenix is pushing down on Away's leg trying to pass to half guard. Away is fighting to maintain full guard but Phoenix has managed to sneak the leg through.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Phoenix tries to pass to full mount but Away defends it.
Away wants to improve his position but Phoenix is controlling well.
Phoenix is looking to advance position but Away won't allow it.
Phoenix trying to control from half guard but Away is working away.
Away tries to roll over but Phoenix keeps him under control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Away regains full guard. Nicely done.

Phoenix content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Away has locked up a guillotine! Away's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Phoenix is holding on here and Away must be using up a lot of energy. Phoenix has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Away gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
