Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Kvasov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kvasov has chosen Diskoteka avaria-Nebo as his entrance music. Roman Kvasov has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Matt Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Roman Kvasov!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kvasov checks a low kick from Diaz.
Kvasov tries a head kick but it misses.
Diaz connects with a looping right hand.
Diaz has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Rough House in the buildup to the fight.
Kvasov tries to work over Diaz's front leg with a kick but Diaz checks it.
Kvasov has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Kvasov walks into a left hand.
Diaz misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kvasov.
Diaz misses with a low kick as Kvasov jumps back.
Diaz connects with an inside leg kick.
Kvasov closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Diaz connects with a right hand. Kvasov shakes it off.
Kvasov is looking to slow Diaz down with leg kicks.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kvasov stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Kvasov moves out of range of the strikes.
Diaz throws out a loose jab but Kvasov uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kvasov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Diaz sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kvasov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kvasov blocks a jab.
Kvasov throws a jab but it's blocked by Diaz.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A clash of legs there as Diaz blocks the low kick.
Diaz throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Kvasov counters with a slapping leg kick.
Diaz tries to score with a low kick but Kvasov moves his leg out of the way.
Diaz lands a lovely overhand right.
Kvasov misses with a wild combination.
Good work by Diaz as he checks the leg kick.
Diaz scores with a hook to the body. Kvasov takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Diaz drives through with a takedown into Kvasov's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kvasov can't keep his opponent in guard - Diaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Kvasov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Diaz prevents Kvasov from standing back up.

Diaz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Diaz is pressing down on Kvasov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kvasov is holding on for now.

Diaz is working for a kimura but Kvasov is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz not doing much here.
Kvasov is looking to escape.

Kvasov is staying active underneath Diaz, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Diaz is working for a submission of some sort.
Kvasov won't allow Diaz to pass to mount.
Diaz tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Kvasov pushes Diaz off and gets back to his feet.
Kvasov throws a head kick that misses.
Kvasov takes a swing at Diaz's ribcage but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz misses with a low kick.
Diaz is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kvasov.
Kvasov throws a lazy head kick

and Diaz decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Kvasov's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Diaz pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kvasov is keeping the position for now.
Diaz stands and throws Kvasov's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Diaz tries to advance to mount but Kvasov instead regains half guard.
Kvasov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz stops Kvasov from getting back to his feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Diaz seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kvasov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Diaz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Kvasov is looking to chop away at Diaz's legs.
Kvasov tries to bum rush Diaz with a series of wild strikes but Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kvasov misses with a combination

and Diaz counters with a takedown into side control.

Diaz is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kvasov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Diaz has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Kvasov!

Diaz swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Kvasov is now in Diaz's guard. A big mistake from Diaz there, giving up the dominant position!
Kvasov would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Diaz is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kvasov has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Diaz is proving hard to escape from.
Diaz controls Kvasov momentarily but Kvasov frees himself.

Kvasov stands and steps away. Diaz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz scores with a jab to the body.
Diaz shoots in but no luck this time.
Kvasov takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Kvasov throws a right and a left that Diaz avoids nicely.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
Kvasov dips to his left and cracks Diaz with an uppercut!

Diaz closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kvasov quickly recovers to half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Diaz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kvasov sees it coming and defends easily.
Kvasov wants to get back to his feet.
Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kvasov keeps working.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kvasov is trying to stand up here but Diaz is controlling him well.

Diaz is working for a kimura but Kvasov is defending it quite comfortably.
Diaz is looking to advance position but Kvasov won't allow it.
Diaz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Matt Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kvasov is trying to stand up.
Diaz tries to control but Kvasov wriggling away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Diaz goes for an armbar but Kvasov turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Kvasov.

Diaz is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Kvasov frees his head nicely. Oh but Diaz has switched to an armbar! Kvasov is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Armbar). Matt Diaz!
An out of breath Matt Diaz thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
