PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lucas Roy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Kessler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Kessler's choice of entrance music: Yattering - Chase of Thoughts . Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lucas Roy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Kessler!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roy throws a hook but Kessler avoids it easily.
Kessler connects with a solid leg kick.
Kessler slips a jab from Roy.
Roy throws a lazy uppercut
and Kessler counters with a good low kick that Roy was not able to check.
Roy slips a jab and a cross from Kessler.
Kessler tries to score with a low kick but Roy moves his leg out of the way.
Roy throws a jab when Kessler was well out of range.

Kessler drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kessler landing a few strikes.
Kessler gets to mount! Roy was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Roy gets back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kessler connects with a nice short shot to Roy's temple.
Roy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kessler wants to take a breather but Roy is having none of it.
Kessler working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Roy is not content to let Kessler control the position.

Kessler not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Kessler is looking for a kimura but Roy is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kessler to get the leverage.
Kessler passes to side control.
Roy manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Roy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roy is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kessler sees it coming and defends easily.

Kessler wants to control but Roy is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Roy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kessler's head.
Roy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kessler defending well though.
Kessler is positioning himself well to prevent Roy advancing to mount.
Kessler is in trouble now - Roy has advanced to mount!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roy working some short elbows here. He postures up to throw some more ground and pound but Kessler slips a leg through to get back to half guard. Nice work.
Roy tries to pass to full mount but Kessler defends it.

Roy is working for a submission of some sort.

Roy is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kessler doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Roy.

Kessler is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Roy's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Roy's back!
Roy tries to escape but Kessler has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Kessler lands a shot to the body.
I really don't envy Roy right now.
Kessler is punishing Roy with strikes - can he finish him?!
Roy is taking damage to the body and head.
Kessler controlling well, preventing Roy from escaping the position.
Kessler just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Roy rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kessler wants to pass to mount but Roy is defending the position.

Kessler lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Roy is looking to improve his position.
Roy is staying active underneath Kessler, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Roy tries to get to full guard but Kessler has control of the leg.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kessler is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Roy manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jack Kessler will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Roy bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Roy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kessler moves away.
A slow jab from Roy misses its intended target.
Roy on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kessler. Kessler obviously looking to wear him down.

Kessler takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Roy misses with a straight right.
Roy closes the distance and clinches up with Kessler, looking for a takedown. Roy pushes Kessler against the cage but Kessler circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kessler lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kessler throws a quick inside leg kick.
Roy jabs Kessler to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Roy lands with a cross.
Kessler throws a hook but Roy avoids it easily.

Roy misses with a looping left.
Kessler throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Roy sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Roy throws a hook to the side of Kessler's head but Kessler sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Roy throws a nice looking combination but Kessler bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Roy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A jab from Roy misses.

Kessler gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Roy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kessler looks for a takedown but Roy sprawls well.
Roy misses with a hook. Kessler ducked under it nicely.

Kessler lands with a right hand.
Roy looks to land a right hand but Kessler moved out of range.

Kessler moves in looking to clinch but Roy pushes him off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Roy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Kessler takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Kessler moves away from the strike by Roy.
Roy shoots in looking for a takedown but Kessler manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Roy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Roy walks forward, straight into a front kick from Kessler.
Roy is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Roy takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Roy shoots in but Kessler avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Roy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Kessler counters with a flying knee that sends his opponent to the canvas! Kessler looking to finish!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oh Roy is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kessler scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Roy seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Roy looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Roy seems to have got his legs back now.
Kessler keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Roy's head.

Kessler postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kessler is working Roy over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kessler gets to his feet and stands over Roy, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Roy felt that one! Kessler unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Roy from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jack Kessler!
A very excited looking Jack Kessler made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
