The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shephard fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

It looks like Jack Shephard has been cut.

Shephard has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Steigelmann regains guard immediately.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Steigelmann seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Shephard has Steigelmann pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Steigelmann manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Shephard is rocked!
Steigelmann is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Steigelmann misses with the ground and pound.

Shephard parries the strikes from Steigelmann easily there. Steigelmann is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Shephard to escape.
A lull in the action here as Steigelmann stalls from top position.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Shephard manages to work his way to half guard, despite Steigelmann's best efforts.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
