Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Kampmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Vega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Kampmann!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Donatello Bradman and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vega blocks the body kick.
Vega dodges the punch combination from Kampmann.
Kampmann misses with a body shot.
Kampmann has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Kampmann feints a jab promting Vega to slip. Kampmann then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Vega slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Vega takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Kampmann bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Vega's head.
Kampmann tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Vega manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kampmann lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Vega at a distance.
Vega misses with a hook. Kampmann ducked under it nicely.

Kampmann lands a nice shot that snaps Vega's head back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kampmann doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kampmann lands a left hand.
Vega goes for a takedown attempt but Kampmann pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Martin Kampmann is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Vega checks a leg kick nicely.
Vega looks to score with a jab to the body but Kampmann is just out of range.
Kampmann tries to clinch but Vega is having none of it.
Vega moves away from the strike by Kampmann.
Vega takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Kampmann cracks the inside of Vega's front leg.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Kampmann.
Kampmann tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vega swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Vega throws a body punch but Kampmann moves out of range.

Vega swings and misses with a hook to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vega fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kampmann sprawls well initially but Vega persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Vega tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kampmann knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Vega is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kampmann is just riding it out for now. Vega eventually gives up the hold.

Vega looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Kampmann is in trouble now - Vega has advanced to mount!

Kampmann gets back to half guard.
Kampmann really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vega. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kampmann is looking to improve his position.

Vega is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kampmann defends it well.

Vega wants to work for an arm triangle but Kampmann is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kampmann has his hands clasped together around Vega's back. He's all about the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vega works his foot free and advances to mount.

Vega is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kampmann to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kampmann shrugs it off.
Kampmann bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Vega is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kampmann wants to control from the top but Vega keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Kampmann dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Vega throws a body punch but Kampmann moves out of range.
Vega avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Vega darts in looking for a takedown but Kampmann gets double underhooks and turns Vega into the cage.

Vega escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vega fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kampmann tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vega paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Kampmann throws a looping overhand right but Vega ducks down to avoid it.

Kampmann rushes Vega and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Kampmann is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Vega. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vega goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kampmann blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vega is trying to push Kampmann away but Kampmann has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kampmann is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Martin Kampmann seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Vega looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

I was talking to Vega's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Oh Vega is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kampmann lands a big right hand that drops Vega! The killer instinct kicks in and Kampmann finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Kampmann!

During a confident post fight interview, Martin Kampmann thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
