PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Lang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustav Grimwald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lang comes into the arena with Im not here to make friends blaring out of the sound system. Grimwald is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by NoMeansNo - Mr. In Between. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Lang!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gustav Grimwald!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Chris Dean and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Grimwald is predictable there

and Lang counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Grimwald's guard now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Grimwald had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lang defends it easily.
Lang preventing the sweep.
Lang forces his way into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lang is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Grimwald reverses the position - he's now on top in Lang's guard.

Lang escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Grimwald gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Grimwald not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Lang might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Lang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Grimwald can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Grimwald seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lang does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grimwald accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That was a close round but I would say that David Lang will probably get the nod.

Lang lands a lovely overhand right.
Grimwald lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Lang here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Grimwald thuds his right hand into Lang's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.


It looks like David Lang has been cut.
Grimwald misses with a looping right.
Lang connects with a leg kick. Grimwald looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Grimwald leaves Lang with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Lang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lang throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Grimwald on the side of the head.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Lang.

David Lang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grimwald throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lang on the side of the head.
Lang lands a slapping body shot.
Lang finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Lang shoots in looking for a takedown but Grimwald manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Lang. That's going to take a lot out of him.

David Lang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lang loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Grimwald scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Lang land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Lang stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). David Lang!
David Lang retains his lightweight title!
Post fight, David Lang stared into the camera and said ' THIS IS MY BELT AND YOURE GONNA HAVE TO FUCKIN KILL ME TO TAKE IT!!! Let the LW division get a real contender and let me fight for the FW BELT!! And lesnoe I still got another beating for you so dont get impatient!!!'.
