PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio Vidal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Antonio Vidal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James West!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vidal shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Vidal's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Vidal wants to lay and pray for a moment but West keeps working.

Vidal is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Vidal looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks West with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Vidal is trying to control the action in half guard but West is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Vidal is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

West is not content to let Vidal control the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vidal connects with a nice short shot to West's temple.
West is not content to let Vidal control the position.
Vidal is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vidal lands a nice short elbow.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vidal is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Vidal passes the guard and advances to mount!
Vidal is landing with some decent strikes but West is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Vidal has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of West's face.

Vidal is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. West can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
West really wants to buck Vidal off and get back to his feet.
Vidal lands a big elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

West gets caught napping as Vidal dives in and scores a takedown. West manages to retain guard.
West is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vidal is controlling him.
Vidal is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that West can do to turn this around?

Vidal stands and throws West's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Vidal is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because West is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

West is breathing heavily.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vidal moves into full mount!
West really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vidal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

West is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Vidal lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Vidal breaks from West's wrist control and lands an elbow.

West is rocked!

West has left one of his arms exposed and Vidal doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. West screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Antonio Vidal!
A relieved looking Antonio Vidal thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
