PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hannibal King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vann Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hannibal King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vann Knight!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Franklyn Lucas and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Knight as King shoots in.
Knight tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Knight.
Knight displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from King.
King throws a right hand that Knight ducks under and follows up with a left that Knight also avoids with ease.
A looping hook to the body misses from Knight. King does a little dance to reset his feet.
Knight slaps away a takedown attempt from King, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hannibal King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Knight fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.
Knight lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Knight.
King wants to clinch
and Knight counters with a big head kick but King shrugs it off.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
King fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Knight avoids it really well and circles away.
Knight connects with a body shot that sends King's belly button to the back.

Knight cracks King with a big right hand and King goes down!


King is rocked!


It looks like Hannibal King has been cut.
Knight trying to stand up but can't free himself from King's guard.
Oh King is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Knight sitting in guard, not really doing much.
King seems to have got his legs back now.

King working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Knight doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Knight manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

King is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Knight defends well.
King can't keep his opponent in guard - Knight advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

King looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Knight uses his free foot to push down on King's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for King.
King regains half guard.
Knight tries to pass to full mount but King defends it.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Knight in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

King is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Knight pulls his head out easily.
Knight wants to free his trapped foot but King is holding on for dear life with his legs.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knight content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vann Knight dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hannibal King's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Knight dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Knight defends well against a solid takedown attempt from King.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for King. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Knight missing with a left hand there. King was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
King misses with a jab, cross combination.
Knight stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Knight connects with a crisp jab.
King throws a right and a left that Knight avoids nicely.
King closes the distance but Knight moves to the side
and Knight cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Knight misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Knight displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from King.
Knight throws a body punch but King moves out of range.
King shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hannibal King. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Knight throws a sloppy head kick

and King counters with a takedown into side control.

King is trying to get an arm triangle but Knight is defending well.
Knight tries to improve position but can't.
Knight is still trying to improve position.

King swings around for an armbar but Knight sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into King's guard.
Knight seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Knight sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed King's guard.
Vann Knight has got the better of the ground game so far.
Knight controlling the pace.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Knight is trying to control the action in half guard but King is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Knight can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as King is looking to escape.

King is looking to improve his position but Knight isn't that keen on the idea.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Vann Knight wasn't active enough on the ground.
King tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Knight swivels and escapes.
Vann Knight is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
King closes the distance and clinches up with Knight, looking for a takedown. King pushes Knight against the cage but Knight circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
King takes a shot right to the bread basket.
King goes for a double leg but Knight avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Knight continues to drive forward.
A short body shot lands from Knight as the two fighters clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Nice body punch from Knight - that landed with a thud.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Knight scores with a hook to the body.

I was talking to King's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Knight makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Knight lands an elbow inside that King shrugs off.
Knight lands an elbow inside.

Vann Knight showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hannibal King's cut is getting worse.

King shoots in looking for a takedown but Knight manages to keep the fight standing, pushing King's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Knight misses with a wild combination.
King misses with a takedown attempt - Knight sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
King will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hannibal King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice shot lands for Knight.
King fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Knight manages to avoid it.
Knight has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King moves forwards but Knight connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Hannibal King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Knight bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Knight lands with a shot to the body.
Knight misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Knight is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down King rather than just go for the knockout.
King takes one to the chin there.
Knight stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Knight wants it to stay on the feet.
Knight digs a good hook to King's body.
Knight digs a good body shot into King's ribs.
Donk. Knight catches King right on the button with a cross.
Knight connects with a stiff jab that staggers King - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Vann Knight!
After the fight, Vann Knight was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
