PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bowman Rook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henkka Seppala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Seppala's choice of entrance music: Children of Bodom - Smile pretty for the devil. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Bowman Rook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Henkka Seppala!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Fedor Mirinova and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Seppala keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Seppala swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rook has been working on his boxing with his coaches at ~T~ Troid - Gym in the buildup to the fight.
Seppala motions for Rook to come forward. Seppala throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Rook feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Henkka Seppala was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Seppala misses with a hook. Rook ducked under it nicely.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Seppala enables Rook to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Seppala manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Seppala manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rook manages to get himself to full guard.
Seppala is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rook wants to sweep here but Seppala controlling him for the moment.
Seppala seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Henkka Seppala has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Rook shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Seppala as he avoids it easily.
Rook has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rook there as he acknowledges the shot.
The fighters circle momentarily. Seppala darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Rook drives through with a takedown into guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Rook slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Rook is working Seppala over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Bowman Rook will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Rook shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Seppala sprawls well. Seppala wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rook gets slowly back to his feet.

Seppala throws out a loose jab but Rook uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rook shoots in looking for a takedown but Seppala manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rook's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Seppala throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Rook tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Seppala manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Seppala throws a hook but Rook avoids it easily.

and Rook takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Rook shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Seppala defends it nicely.
Rook shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
