Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cronos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chong Zhu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronos comes to the cage accompanied by Sandstorm. Zhu comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Meet Gazoo kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Jose Cronos had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Cronos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chong Zhu!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zhu takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Zhu throws a lazy uppercut

and Cronos counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Zhu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cronos wants to control from the top but Zhu keeps moving.
Cronos is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cronos won't allow Zhu to sweep him here.
Cronos tries to free his leg and advance position but Zhu is retaining full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jose Cronos has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Cronos connects with a right hand. Zhu shakes it off.
Zhu is looking to slow Cronos down with leg kicks.
Zhu throws a quick inside leg kick.
Zhu lands a leg kick that knocks Cronos off balance momentarily.
Zhu swings away with a leg kick that misses.

Zhu fails with an attempt to clinch.
Zhu's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Cronos connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Zhu scrambles back to his feet.
Cronos throws a combination. Zhu tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Zhu dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Cronos. That did some damage!
Cronos keeps the fight on the outside.
Chong Zhu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Cronos looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Zhu looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Cronos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Zhu is just riding it out for now. Cronos eventually gives up the hold.
Cronos takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cronos is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zhu tries to kick Cronos off but Cronos keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Cronos prevents Zhu from improving his position.
Zhu moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Cronos wants to control from the top but Zhu keeps moving.

Cronos avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Cronos is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Zhu is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cronos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Zhu is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cronos, into his guard.
Cronos keeping moving, preventing Zhu from controlling successfully.
Cronos lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Zhu!
Cronos throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zhu can't escape the position.

Zhu defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Cronos.
Cronos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Cronos looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zhu is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Zhu tries to lock up and control but Cronos gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Zhu is trying to escape the mount.
Cronos controlling the position easily from mount.
Cronos seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zhu for as long as he can get away with.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cronos prevents Zhu from getting the reversal.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jose Cronos dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


A chopping leg kick lands by Zhu.
Cronos circles away from the clinch attempt.
Zhu misses with a straight left.
Zhu throws an overhand right that lands on Cronos's shoulder, as Cronos tries to avoid the shot.
Zhu tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cronos manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Zhu lands a slapping body shot.
Zhu moves forwards but Cronos connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Zhu scores with a hook to the body. Cronos takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Zhu misses with a wild body shot.

Cronos shoots in and bounces Zhu off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cronos pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zhu is keeping the position for now.
Cronos passes Zhu's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Cronos is looking for a kimura here.

Cronos is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Zhu has managed to free his arm - good work.
Zhu is looking to improve his position.

Cronos is working for a submission of some sort.
Zhu is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zhu won't allow Cronos to pass to mount.
Cronos is keen to just control but Zhu is a slippery customer.

Cronos wants to work for an arm triangle but Zhu is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Cronos is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Zhu is trying to control but can't.
Zhu is refusing to be controlled, as Cronos sits in half guard.
Zhu looks like he's trying to stand up.
Cronos is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Cronos is looking for a kimura but Zhu is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cronos to get the leverage.

Zhu is looking to control Cronos's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Zhu avoid being mounted?

Cronos seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Zhu is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jose Cronos!
A determined Jose Cronos didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
