PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shelby Toe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Solofa Fatu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Toe kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Here Comes the Boom!. Fatu has chosen Bad Man as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Solofa Fatu!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Paul Gruel.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fatu dives in and grabs Toe's left leg, looking for a takedown. Toe pushes down on Fatu's head and hops out.
Toe slips a jab and a cross from Fatu.

Fatu drops Toe with a nice combination! Fatu dives into Toe's guard, looking to finish!

Toe is rocked!

It looks like Shelby Toe has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fatu wants to control from the top but Toe keeps moving.
Oh Toe is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Toe will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Solofa Fatu hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Fatu fails with a takedown attempt.
Fatu shoots in for a takedown but Toe shows good takedown defense.
Shelby Toe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Solofa Fatu.
Toe fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fatu manages to avoid it.
Toe throws a body punch but Fatu moves out of range.

Fatu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Toe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fatu is one step ahead there.

Toe pulls Fatu in close to prevent any damage.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Fatu accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Nice sprawl there from Toe as Fatu shoots in.
Fatu shoots in looking for a takedown. Toe tries to sprawl out of it but Fatu keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Toe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Toe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fatu.
Toe throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Fatu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Fatu wants to control from the top but Toe keeps moving.

Fatu is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Toe is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Toe has escaped and now he's on top!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Toe passes Fatu's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Fatu looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fatu is refusing to be controlled, as Toe sits in half guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Toe wants to control but Fatu is keeping him busy.
Fatu tries to kick Toe off but Toe keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Toe lands a nice short elbow.
Fatu looks like he's trying to stand up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Toe connects with a couple of big shots that have Fatu covering up! Oh, this looks bad for Fatu! Toe fires away with several more unanswered shots and the referee has no choice but to step in! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
