Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Gouken!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, John Haigh!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gouken tries to clinch up.
Gouken throws a half hearted mid kick.
Haigh scores with a nice right hand.
Nice defenses there by Gouken.
Gouken keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Haigh.
Gouken uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Haigh.
Gouken shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Haigh checks a leg kick.
Haigh misses with a looping right.
A chopping leg kick lands by Gouken.
Gouken avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Haigh throws out a loose jab but Gouken uses good head movement to avoid it.
Haigh connects with a single shot there.
Haigh paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Gouken ducks right into an uppercut from Haigh.

Haigh lunges at Gouken with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Gouken's hand.


It looks like Scott Gouken has been cut.

and Gouken takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A slapping body kick lands there for Gouken.

Gouken tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Haigh paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gouken lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Haigh circles away quickly and effectively.
John Haigh is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Haigh cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gouken tries a head kick but it misses.
Haigh might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Haigh tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gouken was well out of range. Poor timing from Haigh.

Gouken misses with a takedown attempt - Haigh sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Haigh uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gouken has time to react.
Gouken tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Haigh misses with a double jab.
Gouken lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Haigh looks to score with a jab to the body but Gouken is just out of range.
Haigh fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gouken manages to avoid it.
Haigh defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gouken.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Gouken. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Haigh is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Gouken had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Gouken throws a sloppy head kick and Haigh moves out of range easily.
Gouken moves away from the strike by Haigh.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Gouken lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Haigh has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Haigh and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Haigh lands with a straight right. Gouken didn't see that one coming.
Gouken thows a body kick. Haigh tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Haigh tests Gouken's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gouken tries for a takedown but Haigh sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Gouken moves to clinch but Haigh breaks away
and Haigh cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Haigh lands a body shot.
Gouken fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Scott Gouken will probably get the nod.

Haigh lands a left and a right that send Gouken crashing to the mat, dazed. Haigh thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gouken shoots for a double leg takedown but Haigh sprawls well. He's pushed Gouken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Scott Gouken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gouken takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Haigh stuffs the takedown attempt from Gouken. Gouken gets slowly back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Haigh cracks Gouken with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Gouken looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Haigh finish him?
Oh Gouken is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!


Scott Gouken's cut is getting worse.
Gouken looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Gouken makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Haigh really felt that one!

Gouken seems to have got his legs back now.
Haigh lands with an uppercut that bounces Gouken off the cage and back into range.
