Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
20 - 59 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Frito Lei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
8 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Mason!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lei throws a head kick that misses.
Lei drives through and clinches with Mason against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Mason.
Lei has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Lei misses with a body punch.
Mason changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Lei fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lei tries to clinch up
and Mason counters with a nice body shot.
Lei has managed to clinch.
Lei misses with an elbow strike.
Lei wants to break the clinch but can't.
Mason ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mason no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lei wants to get up but he can't break Mason's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Lei stands up and waves to Mason to follow him.
A shot to the body from Lei misses
and Mason counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Lei tries to close the distance and clinch but Mason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Frito Lei is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lei throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Mason counters with a big right hand! Oh Lei is in trouble here! Mason follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Mason!
Alex Mason decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
