PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Solofa Fatu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Clock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fatu kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bad Man. The key to victory for Solofa Fatu has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Solofa Fatu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charlie Clock!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fatu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Clock sprawls well. Clock wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fatu gets slowly back to his feet.
Fatu misses with a takedown
and Clock counters with an inside leg kick.
Fatu fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Solofa Fatu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Clock dives in and grabs Fatu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fatu pushes down on Clock's head and hops out.
Clock tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fatu swivels and escapes.
Fatu throws a series of punches but Clock avoids them all with ease.
No joy there for Fatu, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fatu tries to bum rush Clock with a series of wild strikes but Clock uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Fatu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Clock is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Clock throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Fatu escapes and throws Clock's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Fatu working the strikes but Clock uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Clock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fatu swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Clock passes Fatu's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Clock working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Fatu's thigh. Fatu counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Clock trying to control the position from guard on top but Fatu is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fatu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Clock sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fatu's guard.

Clock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fatu defends it well.
Clock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fatu keeps working.
Clock might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Fatu haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Clock is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Fatu doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Clock.

Clock is trying to control the action in half guard but Fatu is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Clock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fatu defends it well.

Clock is pressing down on Fatu's thigh, looking to free his foot. Fatu is holding on for now.

Clock is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Clock looking for a submission but Fatu manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Clock drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fatu manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Clock has Fatu in his guard.
Fatu postures up in Clock's guard and throws a big left but Clock blocks it.

Clock looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Fatu has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Clock is proving hard to escape from.

Fatu scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Fatu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Fatu chips away with some ground and pound.

Clock is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fatu is aware though and is defending well.

Fatu is staying active underneath Clock, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Clock looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Clock is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Fatu has managed to free his arm - good work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fatu is trying to stand up here but Clock is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Charlie Clock will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Clock has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Charlie Clock has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Fatu. Those never looked like landing.
Fatu lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Clock circles away quickly and effectively.
Clock is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Fatu.
Fatu misses with a takedown attempt
and Clock counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Fatu thinking.
Clock shoots in but no luck this time.
Solofa Fatu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Clock looks to score with a jab to the body but Fatu is just out of range.

Fatu gets the takedown into side control.
Fatu throws a strike aimed at the side of Clock's head but Clock avoids it well.
Fatu lands a few punches from side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fatu goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Clock has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Fatu but great work by Clock.
Fatu regains half guard there - taking advantage of Clock's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Fatu pushes Clock off looking to stand but Clock dives back in and keeps control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Clock is trying for a kimura here. Fatu looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Clock wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Charlie Clock!
