PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Cage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Don't You Wish You Were Me-Fozzy kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Cage!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antonio Santiago!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Daniel Franklin and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Santiago.
Cage dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Santiago. That did some damage!

Santiago is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Cage is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

You can see the frustration on Cage's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Santiago has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Santiago works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Cage sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Santiago lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Santiago stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cage swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Horrible takedown by Santiago or perhaps it was just good defense by Cage which made him look bad.
Cage catches Santiago with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Cage tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Santiago paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Santiago looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cage is fending him off so far but Santiago persists. Nope, Cage circles away and we're back to standing.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Cage will probably get the nod.

Santiago throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cage's waist but Cage gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Santiago off to one side.
