PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Mote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leroy Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ryan Mote!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Leroy Lewis!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lewis.
Lewis closes the distance and clinches up with Mote, looking for a takedown. Lewis pushes Mote against the cage but Mote circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mote lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Leroy Lewis has been cut.
Mote is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Lewis gets a clinch.
Mote drops down looking for an ankle pick but Lewis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lewis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mote tries to avoid it but Lewis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mote to the ground. Mote escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ryan Mote has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leroy Lewis.
Lewis looks winded!

Mote fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lewis, pushing him back against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mote is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lewis is defending well.

Lewis jumps into guard, dragging Mote to the mat.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Lewis has a closed guard, preventing Mote from standing up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lewis can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lewis tries to strike from the bottom.
Mote tries to stand but Lewis is controlling from the bottom.
Mote has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mote stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Mote tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lewis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Mote thumps Lewis with a low kick.

Lewis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Mote avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lewis.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mote kicks Lewis off and gets back to his feet.

Mote clinches.

Lewis has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mote regains guard immediately.
Mote avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lewis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lewis prevents Mote from getting back to his feet.
Lewis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mote working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lewis.
Lewis pushing down on Mote's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Lewis is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lewis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Lewis wants to pass to mount but Mote is defending the position.
Lewis is trying to control. Mote wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Lewis lands with a punch from half guard.
Mote knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lewis on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mote regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lewis.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leroy Lewis will probably get the nod.

That's time! Mote's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Mote lands a nice shot that snaps Lewis's head back.
Mote lands a head kick!
Ryan Mote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lewis is looking to clinch.
Mote lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Lewis closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A shot to the body from Mote misses
and Lewis counters with a nice body shot.
Mote tries to clinch up

and Lewis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Mote's guard.
Lewis is breathing heavily.

Lewis trying to control but Mote is working from the bottom.
Lewis throwing strikes but missing.
Lewis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Lewis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mote swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lewis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Mote wants to get back to his feet but Lewis is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Mote might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mote is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lewis is controlling him.
Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Mote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mote wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lewis manages to pass to side control.

Lewis wants to take a breather but Mote is having none of it.
Lewis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Lewis thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Lewis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mote sees it coming and defends easily.
Lewis tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mote knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lewis misses with a head shot. Mote uses the momentum to regain guard.
Lewis controlling from the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leroy Lewis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Lewis tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Mote is able to avoid easily.
Mote throws a head kick that misses.
Mote tries to clinch

and Lewis counters by clinching up.
Lewis is trying to pull guard but Mote has him pressed against the cage.
Lewis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mote pulls his leg out and moves away.
Lewis swats away the attempt to clinch by Mote.
Lewis takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lewis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Lewis avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mote fails in his attempt to clinch.
Mote stuffs the takedown attempt from Lewis. Lewis gets slowly back to his feet.
Ryan Mote has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leroy Lewis.
Mote lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Mote lands with a hook. Lewis tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Mote is looking to clinch but Lewis is avoiding it.

Mote throws a combination that misses
and Lewis counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lewis shoots in but Mote avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mote tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lewis paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ryan Mote is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mote jabs Lewis to the body, keeping him at a distance.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mote looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Lewis shoots for a double leg takedown but Mote sprawls well. He's pushed Lewis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mote throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Mote lands a nice looking body kick.
Mote fails to land with a series of punches.
Mote throws a series of strikes that have Lewis backpedaling.
Mote tries to clinch but Lewis is having none of it.
Ryan Mote has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mote throws a quick inside leg kick.
Mote is looking to clinch but Lewis is avoiding it.
Mote tries to clinch but Lewis moves out of range.

Mote gets a clinch.
Mote utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Leroy Lewis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lewis in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Lewis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mote is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lewis, into his guard.
Mote is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ryan Mote showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
