The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ricci throws a lazy right hand but Gomes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ricci tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gomes was well out of range. Poor timing from Ricci.
Fabio Gomes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ricci throws a jab when Gomes was well out of range.
Gomes scores with a head kick.
Gomes looks to score with a jab to the body but Ricci is just out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Ricci looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gomes throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Ricci fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ricci tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The fighters circling - Ricci throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Gomes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Ricci backs up against the cage.
Ricci moves in looking to clinch but Gomes pushes him off.
A slow jab from Ricci misses its intended target.

Gomes pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gomes slips a jab from Ricci.
Ricci misses with a lunging right hand
and Gomes counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Gomes tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Ricci is able to avoid easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Ricci tries to pull guard but Gomes forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricci escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gomes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ricci has his foot on Gomes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gomes works his way back into a safe position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ricci is trying to control the position but Gomes postures up.

Ricci is looking for a triangle but Gomes pushes his legs off easily.
Gomes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ricci is proving hard to escape from.

Ricci pushes a forearm under Gomes's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Gomes is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
