PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Josh Ball (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Metin Eroglu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Metin Eroglu told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Josh Ball!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Metin Eroglu!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A thudding body kick lands there by Eroglu!
Ball on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Ball shoots in and gets a takedown into Eroglu's guard.
Ball won't allow Eroglu to sweep him here.
Eroglu pulls Ball in to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Eroglu can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ball pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Eroglu is keeping the position for now.
Eroglu looking for a sweep. Not yet Eroglu, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eroglu keeping moving, preventing Ball from controlling successfully.
Eroglu is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eroglu with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.

Ball wants to clinch but Eroglu slips to the side
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Ball gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Eroglu counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ball won't be happy with that.

Ball manages to get back to half guard.
Eroglu slips a nice elbow through Ball's hands, connecting with Ball's forehead.
Eroglu is taking a breather. Ball says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Eroglu really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ball. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Eroglu looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Eroglu takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ball is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Eroglu scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ball is trying to get back to full guard.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Metin Eroglu wasn't active enough on the ground.
Eroglu throws a nice outside leg kick.

Eroglu lands a head kick that stumbles Ball and the fighters go to the mat.

Ball is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Eroglu arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Ball's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
