PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Lyger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Comanche Todd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyger's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Holy Diver. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Lyger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Comanche Todd!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Bruno Lombardi and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lyger takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like James Lyger has been cut.
Todd jabs Lyger to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Lyger closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Todd to the mat! Todd manages to get full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Lyger missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lyger throws a big right hand that misses.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Todd can do anything to dispel that myth.

Todd kicks Lyger off and gets to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nice uppercut there from Todd.
Todd rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lyger moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Todd lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Lyger takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Todd connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Lyger momentarily.
Todd throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Lyger counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Todd manages to get to full guard.

Todd throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Lyger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lyger tries to free his leg and advance position but Todd is retaining full guard.
Lyger in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Lyger trying to control but Todd is working from the bottom.
Lyger connects with a couple of short punches.
Todd looking for a sweep. Not yet Todd, not yet.
Lyger scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Lyger wants to control from the top but Todd keeps moving.
Lyger missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lyger throwing strikes but missing.
Todd pulls Lyger in close to his closed guard and prevents Lyger from doing any damage or advancing position.
Lyger tries to free his leg and advance position but Todd is retaining full guard.
Lyger connects with a couple of short punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Lyger gets to his feet - Todd follows without any prompting.
Todd takes a swing at Lyger's ribcage but misses.
Lyger takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Lyger shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Todd is staying active underneath Lyger, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Lyger lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Lyger throwing shots but Todd is blocking nicely.

Lyger missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Todd has hold of Lyger's hands but Lyger slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Lyger is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Todd!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lyger putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Lyger working for a submission but Todd is keeping him at bay.
Lyger thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Todd wants to hold on but Lyger pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Todd's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Todd duly obliges.
Lyger displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Todd throws out the jab.
Todd swings for the body but Lyger moves out of range.
Todd connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Lyger slips a jab and a cross from Todd.
Lyger fails to land the takedown.
Todd thuds a left hand into Lyger's body.
Todd throws a series of punches but Lyger avoids them all with ease.
Comanche Todd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Todd's jab looks to have found its range, popping Lyger under the eye.
James Lyger is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Lyger walks into a straight right hand from Todd.

Todd fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Lyger on the side of the head.

Todd drops Lyger with a beautiful combination! Lyger stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Todd is looking for the KO!


Lyger is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Todd waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lyger.
Oh Lyger is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Lyger slips a jab and a cross from Todd.
Lyger seems to have got his legs back now.
Lyger is trying hard to land a takedown here. Todd sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Todd. No joy for Lyger on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Lyger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Todd throws a combination that misses

and Lyger counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Todd's guard now.
Lyger trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lyger stands and throws Todd's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Lyger tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Todd pushes Lyger away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lyger gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Todd manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Todd tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Lyger trying to hold on to Todd's head to control him but Todd postures up.
It looks like Todd is going to stand back up.
Todd tries to stand and escape but Lyger actually recovers to full guard.
Todd is looking to stand up but Lyger won't let him.

Lyger is controlling Todd's posture.
Todd wants to stand but Lyger is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lyger has his hands on Todd's head, controlling the position.
James Lyger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Todd wants to get up but he can't break Lyger's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lyger is on top in guard.
Lyger postures up in Todd's guard and throws a big left but Todd blocks it.

Todd tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Todd seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Lyger wants to pass the guard but Todd is keeping the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Todd throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lyger.
Lyger bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A jab from Todd does it's job there.
Todd throws a hook but Lyger avoids it easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Todd scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.


James Lyger's cut is getting worse.
Todd lands a nice hook to Lyger's body. Lyger takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Comanche Todd showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Todd paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Todd fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Todd scores with a nice right hand.
Lyger defending well as Todd loads up on a big left hand.
Todd swings widly with a right hand

and Lyger counters with a takedown into side control.
Lyger working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Sloppy strikes there by Lyger.
Todd is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Todd is not content to let Lyger control the position.

Lyger lands some shots froms side control.
Lyger lands an elbow.
Lyger scoring with punches from side control.
Lyger throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Lyger lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Todd down.
Lyger throwing strikes but Todd manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Lyger can't do much from the bottom here.

Todd decides to stand back up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Todd lands a nice hook to Lyger's body. Lyger takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Todd lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Todd lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Comanche Todd is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Todd misses with a straight left.
Todd catches Lyger with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Todd jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

No luck for Lyger with that takedown attempt.
Todd throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Lyger takes one on the button.


James Lyger's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Todd throws a combination. Lyger tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Lyger takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Lyger walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
No joy there for Todd, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lyger uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Todd.
Todd looks to throw the jab but Lyger is out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lyger dodges the punch combination from Todd.
Lyger looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lyger has a takedown stuffed.
Lyger takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
A punch lands to the side of Lyger 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Todd lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Todd connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.


Jeez, James Lyger's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Todd comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Todd dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Comanche Todd comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Todd has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
