PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Millar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ali Cali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Millar comes into the arena with Never Say Die blaring out of the sound system. Cali has chosen Never Say Die as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Millar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ali Cali!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cali misses with a series of wild punches.
Cali throws a head kick that misses.
Millar shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cali as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cali is defended easily by Millar.
An inside leg kick from Millar misses.
Cali throws a low kick but it's checked well by Millar.
Millar takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Millar tries to clinch up but Cali circles away and keeps his distance.

Cali looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Millar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Cali is controlling him.

Cali has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Millar is proving hard to escape from.
Cali wants to stand and escape but instead Millar has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Millar's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cali throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Millar trying to control the position from guard on top but Cali is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Millar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Millar moves into range and clinches up with Cali.

Cali jumps guard and drags Millar to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Cali looking to hit a scissor sweep but Millar is one step ahead there.
Cali not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cali wants to sweep here but Millar controlling him for the moment.
Millar postures up in Cali's guard and throws a big left but Cali blocks it.

Millar is really struggling to control Cali but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Michael Millar wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Millar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Cali sprawls well. Cali wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Millar gets slowly back to his feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Millar is working for a guillotine from mount but Cali frees his head quite easily.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Cali looking to slow down the pace here.
Millar is looking to control Cali's arms but Cali gets an underhook and turns him. Now Millar has his back to the cage.

Millar pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cali throws a push kick but Millar slaps the foot to one side.

Cali throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Millar was covering up waiting for the punch and Cali finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Millar looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cali trying to control the position from guard on top but Millar is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Millar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cali is looking to control Millar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cali avoid being mounted?

Cali takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Millar throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Cali.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cali pulls Millar in close to prevent any damage.

Cali is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Millar is aware though and is defending well.
Michael Millar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Millar is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Millar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cali fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Cali throws an overhand right that lands on Millar's shoulder, as Millar tries to avoid the shot.

Millar shoots for a double leg takedown but Cali sprawls well. He's pushed Millar's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
