Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Pezzy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Callan Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Callan Kelly is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Pezzy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Callan Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly darts in trying to clinch

and Pezzy counters by moving into the clinch.
Pezzy can't get the takedown.
Kelly landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Kelly displaying some good clinch control by pressing Pezzy up against the cage.

Kelly escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kelly throws a head kick that misses.
Kelly avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Kelly moves into the clinch.
Kelly wants to get back to striking at distance but Pezzy won't allow it.
Kelly looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Pezzy is trying to drag Kelly to the mat but Kelly just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Pezzy is trying to push Kelly away but Kelly has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Kelly obliges.
Kelly avoiding damage.

Kelly breaks from the clinch.
Kelly doesn't manage to clinch there - Pezzy circles away.
Kelly wants to clinch up but Pezzy keeps it at a distance.
Kelly keeps the fight on the outside.
Pezzy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kelly pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Pezzy pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Pezzy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kelly is pushing Pezzy's head away, looking to escape. Pezzy manages to hold on to the position though.
Pezzy postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Kelly is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Pezzy taking a break here but Kelly is having none of it and regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pezzy is trying to control the action in half guard but Kelly is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Pezzy is working for a kimura but Kelly is defending it quite comfortably.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pezzy frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Pezzy tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Pezzy unloads with some shots from mount but Kelly bucks and avoids them well.

Pezzy is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Pezzy moves in looking to clinch but Kelly pushes him off.

Pezzy has closed the distance and engaged Kelly in a clinch.
Kelly has Pezzy pushed against the cage.
Pezzy avoiding damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kelly keeps control of Pezzy as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Pezzy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kelly pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Pezzy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Kelly looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Pezzy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kelly circles away.
Pezzy swats away the attempt to clinch by Kelly.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Mike Pezzy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Pezzy drives through with a takedown into Kelly's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Pezzy prevents Kelly from getting back to his feet.
Pezzy advances to half guard.
Kelly is trying to stand up here but Pezzy is controlling him well.

Pezzy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kelly defends it well.
Pezzy looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kelly with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pezzy wants to take a breather but Kelly is having none of it.

Pezzy is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kelly defends it well.

Pezzy wants to work for an arm triangle but Kelly is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kelly really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pezzy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kelly wants to get back to his feet.
Kelly is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pezzy in particular looking to stall.
Kelly is not content to let Pezzy control the position.

Kelly stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Pezzy to get to his feet.

and Kelly counters with a thumping low kick.
Kelly is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pezzy tries to clinch but Kelly is having none of it.

Kelly throws an elbow but it misses.
Kelly is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Pezzy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kelly takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pezzy swats away the attempt to clinch by Kelly.

Pezzy listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

Pezzy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kelly sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pezzy somewhat.

Kelly avoids the head kick by Pezzy.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Kelly moves into range and clinches up with Pezzy.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mike Pezzy will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Kelly tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Pezzy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pezzy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kelly sprawls well. Kelly wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Pezzy gets slowly back to his feet.

Kelly is pushing Pezzy up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Pezzy is looking to break free of the clinch but Kelly has double underhooks.

Pezzy is trying to maintain a safe position but Kelly gets an underhook and turns Pezzy into the cage.
Kelly is pressed up against the cage. Pezzy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kelly down to the mat. Kelly avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Kelly is looking to clinch but Pezzy is avoiding it.
Pezzy shoots in for a double leg but Kelly sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Pezzy fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kelly avoids it really well and circles away.

Pezzy shoots in for a takedown but Kelly shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A left and a right from Kelly both land. Nice combination.

Callan Kelly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Pezzy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
