PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between David Marney (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobo James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Marney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobo James!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

James shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Marney manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Marney looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Marney is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Marney knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for James on the ground.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James postures up in Marney's guard and throws a big left but Marney blocks it.

James stands up and waves to Marney to follow him.

Marney fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
James lands with a hook. Marney tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Bobo James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

James moves into the clinch.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Marney or perhaps it was just good defense by James which made him look bad.

James lands a right hand.

Marney prevents a takedown attempt there.

Marney manages to break the clinch.

Marney will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

James scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

James gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

James is working for takedown but Marney is calmly controlling the position for now.
James lands a left hand that snaps the head of Marney backwards.
Marney blocks a body shot from James.
James with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

James escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
James scores with a decent looking hook.

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Marney has hold of James's hands but James slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

James decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
James doesn't manage to clinch there - Marney circles away.

James keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Marney's head.

James drops back looking for a leg! Marney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Marney manages to kick James off! James jumps back into Marney's guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
James working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
James trying to control but Marney is working from the bottom.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

James gets to his feet - Marney follows without any prompting.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobo James dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


James is looking to clinch but Marney is avoiding it.

James scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Marney as he avoids it easily.

James cracks Marney with an open hand slap.
Good standup being displayed there by James as he connects with a hook.

James closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Marney is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
A frustrated look appears on Marney's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Marney jumps guard but James turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
James is struggling to control the position.

David Marney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobo James.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Marney counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

James manages to escape and get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marney tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marney to the ground. Marney escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

James is pulling down on Marney's head. It's preventing any offense from Marney, at least for the moment.

Marney wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Marneyis looking to pass into half guard but James pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now James is in guard.
James throws a strike but Marney rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
James has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

James has a closed guard, preventing Marney from standing up.
James trying to keep a closed guard but Marney is proving a slippery customer.
Marney tries to stand but James is controlling from the bottom.
James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James passes to side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobo James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

James pulls guard successfully.

James pushes a forearm under Marney's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Marney is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bobo James!
A very excited looking Bobo James made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
