PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Helder Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas De Kaizer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cruz comes into the arena with Vai Rivaldo sai desse lago blaring out of the sound system. De Kaizer is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Im sexay and I know it!. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bas De Kaizer!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De Kaizer avoids the head kick by Cruz.

De Kaizer looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

De Kaizer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cruz is just riding it out for now. De Kaizer eventually gives up the hold.
Cruz is trying to maintain the position but De Kaizer is very close to passing his half guard.

Cruz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

De Kaizer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

De Kaizer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

De Kaizer moves into full mount! Cruz won't be happy about that!
Cruz is desperately trying to improve his position but De Kaizer has a good base and remains in mount.

De Kaizer moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Cruz has worked his arm free - good work by Cruz!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

De Kaizer goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cruz has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for De Kaizer but great work by Cruz.

De Kaizer gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Cruz is looking to take a break and control but De Kaizer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

De Kaizer working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cruz doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cruz manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

De Kaizer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Cruz defends it easily.

De Kaizer is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cruz defends well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Cruz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. De Kaizer was covering up waiting for the punch and Cruz finishes the takedown easily into guard.
De Kaizer wants to improve his position but instead Cruz has moved into half guard.

De Kaizer is looking for a triangle but Cruz pushes his legs off easily.
De Kaizer manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
De Kaizer is looking to work his way around to Cruz's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cruz tries to lock up and control but De Kaizer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
De Kaizer moves to back control.
Cruz wants to control his opponent's hands but De Kaizer gets his hands free.
Cruz is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because De Kaizer is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

De Kaizer is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

De Kaizer has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cruz has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Cruz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

De Kaizer is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Cruz has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
I really don't envy Cruz right now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bas De Kaizer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!



De Kaizer shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Cruz is defending against the submission attempts here by De Kaizer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De Kaizer has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Cruz defend it? De Kaizer steps over the head and cranks it - Cruz is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for De Kaizer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bas De Kaizer!
Bas De Kaizer seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
