Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Boans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boans has chosen Round and Round by Ratt as his entrance music. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boans avoids the body shot from Rua.
Boans tries to clinch but Rua is having none of it.
Boans is trying hard to land a takedown here. Rua sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Rua wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Boans.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Rua is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Boans has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Boans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rua keeps working.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Rua tries to escape but Boans is in control.
Boans misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Rua avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Boans.
Who's going to make the next move?
Boans creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rua sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Boans stands up.

Boans fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Rua to the ground. Boans is now in Rua's guard.
Boans advances position into side control!
Boans trying to control the action but Rua is working from the bottom.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rua tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Boans presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rua wants to try and get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rua can't escape the position.
Boans throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Rua working to try and regain half guard.
Boans looking to ground and pound but Rua is blocking nicely.

Boans goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Rua is on top in guard.
Boans striking off his back but it's not causing Rua any problems.

Rua wants to stand and escape but instead Boans has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Boans pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now.
Boans slips nicely into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Boans dominated that round.
That's time! Rua's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Rua throws a series of punches but Boans moves out of range.
Boans moves in looking to clinch but Rua pushes him off.
Boans shoots in looking for a takedown but Rua manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boans's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Boans throws a combination. Rua tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

It looks like Anderson Rua has been cut.
Rua pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Boans back to the cage. Rua follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Rua throws a nice looking combination but Boans bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Rua misses with the combination.
Boans looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Boans shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Rua napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Rua wants to get back to his feet.
Boans has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Rua gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Boans looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Rua in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rua takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Boans's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
