The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lord shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Smokealot's guard.
Smokealot wants to stand up but Lord is controlling him.
Lord is looking to work some ground and pound but Smokealot has wrist control.
Lord wants to pass the guard but Smokealot is keeping the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lord accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smokealot wants to get back to his feet but Lord is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Lord is working Smokealot over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Lord forces his way into half guard.
Smokealot is trying to stand.
Lord missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Lord is pressing down on Smokealot's thigh, looking to free his foot. Smokealot is holding on for now.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lord connects with a nice short shot to Smokealot's temple.

Lord is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smokealot defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smokealot pushes Lord off looking to stand but Lord dives back in and keeps control.

Lord winds up and cracks Smokealot with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lord seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
