PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dixon Tudeep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tudeep's entrance music is Survival of the Fitttest. A fine choice. Liddell is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Dixon Tudeep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chuck Liddell!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tudeep avoids it really well and circles away.

Liddell gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Tudeep drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Liddell gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Tudeep's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tudeep throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Tudeep fails to pull guard.

Liddell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Liddell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Liddell pulls Tudeep in close to his closed guard and prevents Tudeep from doing any damage or advancing position.
Tudeep wants to control from the top but Liddell keeps moving.

Tudeep is really struggling to control Liddell but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Liddell is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dixon Tudeep.

Tudeep throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


It looks like Chuck Liddell has been cut.

Tudeep drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tudeep stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Liddell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tudeep has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Liddell is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Chuck Liddell was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Tudeep throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Liddell.

Tudeep shoots in for a takedown but Liddell shows good takedown defense.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dixon Tudeep. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tudeep ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Tudeep lands with a nice combination. Liddell backs away looking to recover.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Liddell.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Liddell counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Tudeep is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Liddell takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

so Liddell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tudeep is on top in guard.
Liddell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Tudeep wants to pass the guard but Liddell is keeping the position.
Tudeep postures up in Liddell's guard and throws a big left but Liddell blocks it.
Tudeep trying to stand up but can't free himself from Liddell's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Liddell is on top in guard.

Tudeep working for submissions but it's allowed Liddell to get to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Liddell passes into side control, despite Tudeep's attempt to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Liddell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tudeep.
Tudeep scores with a three punch combo!
Liddell tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tudeep swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Liddell lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Tudeep sprawling to the canvas. Liddell follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Tudeep hang on?


It looks like Dixon Tudeep has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Liddell tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Liddell is keen to just control but Tudeep is a slippery customer.

Liddell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chuck Liddell wasn't active enough on the ground.

Tudeep is trying to push Liddell away but Liddell has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Tudeep tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Liddell just stands there and leans against the cage.
Tudeep jumps guard but Liddell stands there with Tudeep around his waist. Tudeep gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Tudeep has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Liddell is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Liddell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Tudeep to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Tudeep postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Tudeep has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Liddell is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Tudeep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Liddell is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Tudeep is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Liddell is looking to take a break and control but Tudeep is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fight stays on the outside here - Liddell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Liddell fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tudeep avoids it really well and circles away.

Tudeep uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Liddell has time to react.

Tudeep throws a nice looking combination but Liddell bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Tudeep throws a right and a left that Liddell avoids nicely.
Tudeep ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Liddell moves away.
Tudeep lands a leg kick that knocks Liddell off balance momentarily.

Dixon Tudeep seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Liddell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Liddell tries to move into range but Tudeep moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Liddell doesn't manage to clinch there - Tudeep circles away.
Tudeep is looking to wear down Liddell with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Dixon Tudeep is winning the standup battle so far.
Liddell throws a head kick but Tudeep moves out of range.
Liddell takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Tudeep throws a right hand that Liddell ducks under and follows up with a left that Liddell also avoids with ease.
Tudeep fails to land with a series of punches.
Tudeep throws a head kick that misses.
A nice combination there by Tudeep.
Tudeep looks to land a body kick but Liddell moved away.
Tudeep fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Liddell is out of range.
Liddell misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Tudeep gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Tudeep is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Liddell is aware though and is defending well.

Liddell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tudeep has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Liddell has managed to get both his arms back between Tudeep's legs - danger averted.

Liddell slips nicely into half guard.

Liddell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Liddell has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Liddell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tudeep is looking to escape.
Liddell prevents Tudeep from getting the reversal.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tudeep tries to control Liddell's body but Liddell pushes him off. Tudeep squirms to his side and now Liddell has his back!
Tudeep wants to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liddell gets his hands free as Tudeep looks to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dixon Tudeep showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Tudeep has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
