PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ernesto Llosa (ranked 731 p4p, 637 weight class) and Cory McDonnell (ranked 114 p4p, 98 weight class). McDonnell is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Jorge Quintero - 300 Violin Orchestra. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

Llosa shoots for a takedown but McDonnell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Llosa tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McDonnell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Llosa is trying to drag McDonnell to the mat but McDonnell just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
McDonnell lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Llosa has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McDonnell avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Llosa tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McDonnell smiles and moves away.

Llosa moves forwards but McDonnell connects with a nice, crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

McDonnell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Llosa stuns McDonnell with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
McDonnell throws a big shot that misses.
Llosa tried to counter with a leg kick but McDonnell avoided it.
Llosa lands with a nice body punch.

McDonnell lands a left and a right that send Llosa crashing to the mat, dazed. McDonnell thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Ernesto Llosa has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McDonnell sends Llosa crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! McDonnell is motioning to the referee to let Llosa up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Llosa is rocked!
Llosa misses with a takedown attempt - McDonnell sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Oh Llosa is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
McDonnell throws a low kick but it's checked well by Llosa.

Cory McDonnell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McDonnell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Llosa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ernesto Llosa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McDonnell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Llosa drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Llosa seems to have locked his on tight now - McDonnell screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Llosa, as he picks up the win!

In his post fight interview, Ernesto Llosa started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
